Meze Audio Boom Mic: A great MIC for some of your favorite headphones at a great price for gaming, streaming, work and more!

Today, we will discuss a new product from our friends at Meze Audio: their new Omni Directional Boom Mic!  This Boom Mic is excellent, allowing you to use many of your favorite headphones for gaming, streaming, work calls, or Zoom Calls with headphones with dual mono 3.5mm inputs and sources equipped with a CTIA 3.5mm jack connector or separate 3.5mm audio and microphone sockets through the included Y-adapter.

The Boom Mic is also compatible with PCs, Macs, tablets, and smartphones via 3.5mm audio jacks. Since its polar pattern is omnidirectional, it will work best in quiet environments where there is not a lot of background noise, as well as with closed-back headphones, as open-back headphones would leak audio into the mic.

So, if you are on a work Zoom call and you are typing on your computer, taking notes during the call, or working remotely from, say, a coffee shop, you will still want to mute yourself when you are not speaking on the call or use software to remove background noise.

One of my favorite parts about the Boom Mic is its affordability. At only $79, you can use it with so many fabulous headphones, like the Meze 99 Classics and numerous others from different manufacturers.

The mic's build quality is excellent, with CNC-milled and laser-engraved aluminum metal for the microphone capsule and a flexible arm for optimal mic positioning. While most of the video's b-roll shows the microphone openings, you will want to point those openings toward your mouth for the best audio quality.

To control volume, you have an in-line mute and rotary volume control that is easy to adjust and use. As a casual gamer, I found the Boom Mic works terrific with my PS5 controller.

The Condenser Microphone has a frequency response of 100Hz-10 kHz, and the cable length is quite good at 2.5 meters or 8.2ft. The Meze Audio Boom Mic also includes a 3.5mm Y-adapter and a leather pouch.

Let’s talk about how the microphone sounds. I used the microphone in several ways to test audio, such as Facetime audio and video calls through my MacBook, Zoom work calls, Microsoft Teams, and with a couple of buddies playing on the PS4.

One important thing to note is the placement of the Microphone Capsule, making sure it’s not too close to your mouth. The microphone is very sensitive and precise and will pick up breathing or even the sound of swallowing if placed too close.

However, once you find the proper placement, the sound is clear and detailed, with a bit of warmth and intimacy to your voice that is very pleasing. I asked all the people I spoke with to give me some feedback on what they thought of the sound of my voice, and here is what they said.

Precise, clear, detailed, intimate, and sexy. The last one is questionable, but who am I to argue? Of course, the sound will only be presented as well as the corresponding components it’s paired with.

For instance, using the Boom Mic with my MacBook Pro produces a higher sound quality than the more compressed-sounding PS5 controller, which is no fault of the mic but an issue with how the PS5 controller was designed.

If you are a hardcore gamer, you may want a better-dedicated component rather than running straight out of the controller. Still, honestly, the convenience of just plugging directly into the controller is hard to beat, especially for a casual gamer like me.

Meze has created a well-thought-out Mic with great build quality, excellent sound free from distortion, superb visual esthetics, and very simple to use.

The Boom Mic is not going to replace professional audio recording microphones, but that’s not what it was designed for. For its very reasonable asking price, I am quite impressed, but I am also not surprised, as Meze Audio is one of the best headphone manufacturers in the world.

If you have compatible headphones, this is an easy product for me to recommend. You should feel confident purchasing the Meze Boom Mic from the links in the video description, even if you don’t have time to come down to our showroom or your local dealer to demo it for yourself.
